Kristaps Porziņģis Interview

Who would have known that while working hard in my Writing for the Media college course, I would have the interview of my life. I had been attending the Knick’s vs. Milwaukee Bucks basketball game at Madison Square Garden on February 6, 2018 when my name suddenly appeared on the scoreboard screen as the winner of the “Up Close and Personal” floor seat at the foul line. Along with my win came the opportunity to interview a player of my choosing at the end of the game. Every person who was seated in my section, in front of the handrail, was invited to the floor when the final score was called. But what would follow was a miracle for me even though it was a very unfortunate situation.

took a bad fall that would halt his career. Immediately after the fall that sent him flying over the foul line, a group of professionals huddled the fallen player and the game was put on hold. Within seconds, I was asked to join the group, since they all assumed I was part of the Knick’s professional squad of medical and reporting specialists. There was no time for me to correct the mistake and I ran to court with nothing but game rundown card and a borrowed pen in my hand. I was shocked to see Porzingis on the ground with an apparent ACL injury to the left knee. During his attempted dunk, which he made, he landed awkwardly and would be taken the Hospital for Special Surgery. Head coach Jeff Hornacek said the 22-year-old needed a circle of support and huddled me under his arm toward their private SUV.  I was seated in the 3rd row of a vehicle with tinted windows as we roared toward the hospital. Somehow, I managed to enter the room even before ESPN could get in the door with clearance. The head coach said “"He's of course really sad because he wanted to be out there so bad with us". I could see the coach was speaking with me as the only interviewer in the room. He continued, "but I think at the same time he's staying really positive.” Porzingis looked at me, assuming I was taking the critical notes for briefing and told me “Man, I just want to get my surgery done early so I can just start getting my rehab and I can come back and play.”  I could tell he would be back even stronger because he's a really hungry player.
