Workshop #2

4.)  I drove my Prius on the road with my friend, David, from New York City to Los Angeles, California to see Jackie Chan as special guest at a talk show.  It was a 2,800 miles drive and we have to stop at a hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio to rest.  After we leave, we drove 1,000 miles and arrived at Colorado Spring.  When we look for a place to stop by, my car broken down at Jackson Road.  David and I checked the problems and the car's engine not working and the battery's dead, so we decided to call a tow truck to bring the car to the mechanics.  It took at least a day or two to fix and we finally back on the road to Los Angeles.  30 miles away to our destination, we stopped at McDonald's to grab lunch, but I do not have enough money to buy food because I spent my $300 on car repairs, gas, and hotel check-ins and room service.  So, we decided to head out and eat leftovers from before.  Hours later, we  arrived at Los Angeles so I can finally ...

Our society spends much needed focus and research on children with special needs, primarily those with Autism or who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). What is the PEC?  An organization called “Parents for Exceptional Children” is also known as the PEC. It is a New Jersey based group of families who advocate for children with special needs.   Who are the PEC children? The PEC children have special needs in some capacity. Some are on the Autism spectrum and others have a form of Asperger’s Syndrome.  Children range in various disabilities. Many of the children have a high-functioning disability, which means they can learn in a mainstream classroom.  Others may be non-verbal and have limited mobility with complex disabilities. The PEC runs many family events and programs that are age and diagnosis-appropriate for all to enjoy and learn from.   The PEC doesn’t have a meeting location or building to call its own.  It is a  group of children and parents that meets on the go!  They meet in parks, movie theaters, restaurants, bowling alleys, schools, and everywhere other clubs meet. ...

Kristaps Porziņģis Interview

Image
Who would have known that while working hard in my Writing for the Media college course, I would have the interview of my life. I had been attending the Knick’s vs. Milwaukee Bucks basketball game at Madison Square Garden on February 6, 2018 when my name suddenly appeared on the scoreboard screen as the winner of the “Up Close and Personal” floor seat at the foul line. Along with my win came the opportunity to interview a player of my choosing at the end of the game. Every person who was seated in my section, in front of the handrail, was invited to the floor when the final score was called. But what would follow was a miracle for me even though it was a very unfortunate situation. Knick’s Forward-Center, Kristaps Porziņģis, born in Liepāja, Latvia, took a bad fall that would halt his career. Immediately after the fall that sent him flying over the foul line, a group of professionals huddled the fallen player and the game was put on hold. Within seconds, I was asked to j...

Dogs rescued in Tennessee

Image
NY Post September 17, 2018 The NY Post is calling Tony Alsup a hero. Tony Alsup from Tennessee has been nicknamed the driver of "Noah's Ark on wheels since he drove a school bus into the brunt of Hurricane Florence in search of animal rescue. Even with the storm predictions, Alsup drove in and dove in. In total, the 51 year old man is credited for saving 53 dogs and 11 cats. Even though people could not believe he would risk his own life in search of four-legged felines and canines, he said "I love it". He has a huge heart and reported that "people don't believe me, they say it's got to be barking crazy. But no. They know I'm the Alpha dog and I'm not here to hunt them." Rescue shelters across the South placed Facebook posts about the rescue operation of the animals others would not take. Alsup reminds us that "it's so easy for people to adopt the small pets and the cuties and the cuddly. We take on the one s that deserv...
